The MK Vb Pattern Ultramarine Lascannon is a heavy anti-armor portable weapon for use against enemy vehicles and heavy units. The weapon chamber is directly linked to the power capacitor on the wielder's back, which replaces the normal Space Marine Tactical Backpack. This means the firer does not have to reload the weapon. However, the weapon can only be fired every 2.5 seconds to allow for the las-coils to cool down, otherwise the system could malfunction, and the capacitor may detonate. Its high strength and armor-piercing ability make it a formidable weapon and when it is used in twin-linked mounts on vehicles, it becomes even more deadly.

Since the Lascannon is very heavy and power-consuming, it is usually installed on tanks or gun platforms, when in use by conventional Imperial Guard forces. However, The Adeptus Astartes Space Marines make extensive use of the Lascannon other than their Devastator Squads; it is also used by their Dreadnoughts, Razorbacks, Predator Annihilators, and Land Raiders.
